Rachel+Dash=Married!

Hey there! This past weekend I shot Rachel and Dash's Halloween wedding...what a day! I awoke on Saturday to a very stormy morning. We were crossing our fingers that the weather would clear up before the evening, but no such luck. Rachel and Dash ended up doing their ceremony outside anyway, in the pouring rain. I must say, you would think the rain would've put a "damper" on things, but these two were not going to let a little rain ruin their special day! It ended up being one of the most romantic things I've ever witnessed! It reminded me of the movie "Sweet Home Alabama" when Reese Witherspoon leaves her wedding to the rich socialite to find her childhood sweetheart and professes her love to him in the rain, on the beach, in her wedding gown. :)

Meet baby Ethan, a laid back baby with the prettiest eyes! His mother and I used to teach together 3 years ago and it was so nice to see her again and catch up. She has the sweetest little family!

As you read in my previous post, my friends and I did a "Trash the Dress" session recently. My friend Erin got really brave at the end and got into the Chattahoochee River....in her wedding dress! The results were fabulous!

Photography is so unpredictable.

This past weekend, I had a family session with a dear friend of mine (she was my matron of honor when I got married 3 years ago) and her beautiful family. She has twin girls, Leilani and Lucelie. They are so fun to be around and love to play. I quickly learned, however, that getting 2 2-year olds to sit still for a family picture was no easy task! :) Luis tried to help distract them with funny noises, dolls, silly faces, you name it! I think about our session and I have to giggle. My photography philosophy is to capture images true to life, and this is life. I hope that we can look back at these portraits and remember this special time, for it is gone way too quickly.

Edgar and Claudia

Claudia is one of my best friend's sisters. I had the opportunity to spend time with her and her fiance Edgar this past weekend. We could not have prayed for a better day...the weather was absolutely gorgeous! We walked around and snapped pictures in different areas of Piemont Park, which was very busy Saturday with people from all walks of life.

Claudia and Edgar are planning to get married sometime next year in Cancun, Mexico. We went to Cancun this past summer and it is absolutely GORGEOUS! I have never seen water so clear....it will make a wonderful backdrop for a beautiful wedding.

Congratulations, you 2! Special thanks for letting me share this special time with you.

Semuel and Rosa

Luis and I are so blessed to have many friends...every once in a while, God blesses you with something truly special. We consider Semuel and Rosa to be one of those special blessings.

Semuel and I grew up together, which is something that is rare in the military world. Our families were stationed together several times during the course of our fathers' military careers. Our families spent many holidays, birthdays, and summers together. We viewed them as family.

My sophomore year of college, Semuel called me and said he had met a lovely young woman named Rosa. I could tell in his voice that Rosa was someone special. I was right!

As the years went by, Luis and I got married, followed by Semuel and Rosa almost a year later. Luis and Semuel have become great friends, as well as Rosa and I. We spend holidays, birthdays, and summers together (are you noticing a trend? :)). Luis and I view Rosa and Semuel as family. Maybe someday, our children will have thier own closet-full of memories with many stories to tell.

Mama Milla

I am extremely privileged to not only have my grandmother, but also my great-grandmother alive. They are on a visit from Puerto Rico until the end of the month, and I had a chance to visit with them recently. There were 4 generations of women eating breakfast together that morning. The 1st 3 generations are wondering when there will be a 5th generation to add to the bunch. This of course was accompanied with a nice side of guilt ("Who knows how long I'll be around..."; you know hispanic grandmothers!).

This is my great-grandmother Emilia, who we lovingly call "Mama Milla". She is a spunky 87 year old who loves to laugh. I believe that has kept her spirit young. She and I have a special bond....I love this woman with all my heart! Seeing her again brought me joy, but also a little sadness. Every time I see her, I wonder if it will be my last visit with my dear Mama Milla. In my mind, she will always be the little lady whose laughter can brighten any room.

Little Man

I had such a wonderful day spending time with my friend Andrea and her beautiful 6 month old baby boy Carson, whom I lovingly call my "Little Man". He has grown up so much in a few short months! He can sit up on his own, he is attempting to crawl, and he loves exploring everything around him. He is such a good baby!

We started our shoot at Columbus Botanical Gardens late this morning. It was hot as fire, but Carson held up very well and just went with the flow. He even sat on an ancient John Deere tractor and didn't fuss once! We went to the house later and took some pictures with a black background. Carson was so fascinated with the sheet and enjoyed putting it, as well as his hands, in his mouth. He was so cute!

I am so glad I got to spend quality time with him as well as with Andrea. It makes me sad thinking about how much time has flown by and how little I get to see them. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends!

Daniel and Angela

This weekend, Luis and I went to my friends Angela and Daniel's wedding. I have known both of them for a long time (my mom threw Daniel's mom a baby shower when she was pregnant with him!) and they are the epitome of true love. They have been together for 6 years, and even though I'm sure they had their share of ups and downs, their love has continued to blossom.

I am so happy for this couple! They will be on their honeymoon the next 10 days, and I can't think of another couple that deserves it more.

I love you 2 very much! May God bless your marriage.

Josh and Veronica

I had a fun evening in Atlanta yesterday with my sister-in-law, Veronica, and her new leading man Josh. Veronica met Josh, a Westpoint grad currently stationed at Fort Benning, at a softball game. The family has enjoyed getting to know Josh over the last few months; this session gave me the chance to get to know him better.

Hannah

Hannah and I taught my first two years together. I can honestly say she was my saving grace, always willing to listen to my fears, doubts, and rants. Her classroom was right next door to mine, and we would always check in with each other throughout the day. Had it not been for her friendship and listening ear, I would have quit teaching after the first month. She is definitely a friend that God appointed for me.

Hannah now lives two hours away, but we still stay in touch and keep each other posted on our lives. I'm glad I had a chance to spend some time with her on her last trip to good ol' Carroll County. Looking forward to our next visit together!

Sheilla's Quinceañero

I photographed a very special day for Sheilla, a beautiful young lady that celebrated her quince años, or 15th birthday this past Saturday.

In the hispanic culture, the 15th year of a girl's life serves a very special milestone. It is in that year that she transitions from being a girl to a young woman. Hispanics commemorate this transition by having a special ceremony followed by a big party. The quinceañera, or birthday girl, starts the ceremony be wearing slippers and a crown of flowers. During the ceremony, the mother changes the crown of flowers for a tiara, and the father changes the slippers into a pair of high heels as a symbol of the metamorphosis of the young girl's transformation into a woman.

It was a great honor to be a part of Sheilla's special day...it brought back very fond memories of my own quinceñero that happened almost 11 years ago.

Briana's First Communion

I love photography because of the opportunities it gives you to be a part of special moments in others lives.

Meet Briana....she is a spunky 7-going-on-8 year old that enjoys reading (especially Junie B. Jones books), likes to eat cheese quesadillas, and loves making new friends. We made an instant connection, which made her so easy to photograph. I had the privilege of taking her 1st communion pictures, along with other casual shots. The location was Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta...what a breath-taking location! We even had the chance to take some pictures inside the church, and Briana let me know we had to be very quiet and respectful inside the building.

She is such a lovely young lady! Here is a selection from our shoot.

College Graduate

My brother graduated from college this past Saturday from North Georgia College and State University. He received a Bachelor's Degree in English. I am incredibly proud of him, as is my mom and dad!

The day started off with a lot of rain and dark clouds, but cleared up by the afternoon. It actually turned out to be a gorgeous day.

Best of luck to Mikael as he embarks on this journey called the "Real World"!

Jessie, Jessica, and Baby Olivia

Luis and I went to visit our good friends Jessie and Jessica in Savannah this weekend. We are so excited about their new addition, Olivia Tatum Collins, who will be entering this world in June. Jessica looks absolutely radiant! It was so amazing touching her belly and feeling Olivia kick around and respond to my touch.

We went to visit Tybee Island while we were there, and I took the opportunity to take some maternity pictures. They were both good sports and up for anything.

We can't wait to welcome baby Olivia to our world!

Baby Shower

My friend Andrea had a beautiful baby boy a few months ago named Carson Gage. He is so beautiful! Andrea is the first one of the "Fab 5" to have a baby and it is such an exciting time! Just looking at her and Carson makes me realize how fast we are all growing up. It seems like yesterday we were all enjoying leisurely lunches between classes and gearing up for graduation. I miss those days....however, I also embrace these new opportunities we have to share life experiences with one another.

She recently asked me for the pictures from the baby shower, so I pulled them out. I hadn't really looked at them since her shower. Here are a few special shots.

My brother and his new bride came to visit this weekend. Of course, how could I resist taking pictures? :) We went to the lovely McIntosh Park in Whitesburg, where the Dogwood trees are beginning to bloom. We had so much fun...they were up for anything. They were both involved in Greek life at their university and got pictures with their respective letters.

Laila will be leaving for a year-long stint in Iraq, and she will be missed tremendously. I hope that these pictures will serve as some comfort while she is away.

We've had some crazy weather lately. In a matter of a week, I enjoyed warm, spring-like weather, left a restaurant as sirens were blaring a tornado warning, then woke up on Saturday morning to see snowflakes falling outside my window! My first official wedding of the year happened last Saturday, February 16th. Denisse and Detrick are a wonderful couple that have a happy future ahead of them.

The weather was perfect, the location was gorgeous, and the whole ambiance of the day was that of love and happiness. I will be working on editing their pictures over the next few weeks, but here are some pictures straight out of the camera.
